Melissa Ballenger Glass Artist Nestled in the foot hills of the Cascade Mountains, Melissa finds inspiration in the picturesque beauty surrounding her home and studio.

Intrigued by the ability of her chosen medium to range from brittle shards to flowing liquid, Melissa pulls swirls of color from solid sheets of glass to create a versatile selection of functional and decorative art. From whimsical faces to elegant tableware, and eye catching conversations pieces, she allows her imagination to pour into kilns where select shapes and colors translate her ideas into form.  She finds immense satisfaction in delighting others with her creations. Her art has been sold in a variety of Galleries as well as few select art fairs and can be found in homes as far away as Africa, Portugal, and England.

Teaching this art form is Melissa’s second love. An invitation to participate as an instructor at Crafty Classes Studios in Spring Texas during 2007 began a career in teaching glass fusing. Shortly thereafter a request to act as a substitute instructor in the Life Enhancement Program at Wimberley Community College provided another venue for her to share her passion.  Returning home to Skagit Valley, Washington in 2009, she continues to impart to others her knowledge of design and technique as well as her enthusiasm for glass art.

The opportunity to receive instruction and mentoring from some of best in our nation has been a highlight in her life. Highly esteemed glass artists such as Jonathan Schmuck, Richard LaLond, and Patty Gray have contributed immeasurably to Melissa’s knowledge and love of glass fusing.
